o Literature available
o Raising awareness, asking for volunteers
o More info at lakeworthplayhouse.org or at the theatre downtown
o Tickets generally $25 to $40
o Ted & Lucio will add the info provided to our website and FB page
● Guest Speaker – Brendan Lynch, Chair CRA
o Our neighbor at 920 S. Lakeside, previously on Lake Worth Playhouse Board, on CRA Board
o CRA started 1989 operates on tax funding
o District is along 6th and 10th Avenues, Downtown and most of Dixie Hwy, our neighborhood is not part of the CRA District
o 1989 capped property values of District with tremendous growth
o Budget 3 million, some from county, some from city – used to address plight/slum areas & leverage activity – developers are discouraged but might see the future, incentives are used to attract them, grants used or bank financing that is paid quickly
o Acquire abandoned properties
o Great board & staff – work closely with the city, Tom is on the board & Chip was previously
o Projects – Starbucks, Market Rate Apartment projects (N. Dixie), Dixie Hwy Diet project – long term
o S. Federal concerns – difficult to amend the district in order to work in that area, Tallahasee not helpful, go to the CRA to discuss changes in district – will be a lengthy process but is pursuable – concerns from neighbors regarding S. Federal – are there other means available since the CRA engagement is a lengthy project? Herman suggested to City Manager to incentivize our area. Approach the city and Sustainability Director for help – not a board. Properties are being leased at this time except for Common Grounds. May be able to have a voluntary board to address this. Can the City help cover S. Federal? Put pressure on city, in turn they will put pressure on PBSO. Try nuisance ordinances with the city
o Gulfstream is a big project and requires a large investor, CRA is involved, will be issue on the ballot
o Parking Garage – RFP is out for the parcels (L & M in Downtown Jewel) – attempt to bring in developer for a garage, not enough taxes coming in to the city, more residential downtown and the garage will help
o Apartment project near Matthews with parking garage
o Suggestion to develop 6th & 10th with artwork – CRA could take this on with the city, city would need to acquire property, shuffleboard area is part of that so is encouraging
o CRA meetings are open – next on Wed – on city website, recorded. Ted will pull website link to our page.
o Historic preservation board fight – thanks for help to Brendan – house bought 2009, wife & children sick so moved out because of mold. Building new house at higher level. Flood zone is issue for all of us.
o Material left for the meeting
● Discussion Items –
o Crime Report – Chris Disario attended but not at the meeting to report on it, update next month
o Need Block Directors for 500, 1000, 1700 blocks. 600 and 900 volunteers accepted during meeting!
o Vacation Rentals – Anthony spoke to the fact that code enforcement is issuing citations and attempting to ban the rentals, question as to legality, pulling owners together to rectify with the city and make the rentals better this week. Linda spoke to issues with vacation rentals. City will need to try to stop the issues within the law. Will take issues offline.
● 50/50 Raffle – Total $92 / $46 was won by the Rashkin’s, donated back to SPPNA
IX. Good of the order
